Everyone can attend college.  Has someone said "how are you going to pay for school?" You can apply for financial aid FAFSA.  You also can apply for scholarships and grants.

Thinking about attending college or a trade school?

Awesome! You can now begin your search for a college that will meet your needs.  It is important to find a college that is a good fit for you.  On your college search you need to

1.  Think about what state you want to attend college?

2.  Do you prefer a small or large campus?

3.  Does class size matter?

4.  Does the college have your major?

Community College & Transferring Credits

If you attend a community college with plans to further your education at a university consider the following

1.  What classes will transfer to the University?  (You do not want to take courses that will not transfer.  It is a waste of money).  Contact your University and ask the what classes will they accept.

TIP:

Counselors do help you with scheduling your classes.  However, get the College handbook that indicates the mandatory classes general classes you must take and the classes you must take to complete your major.  You do not want to take classes you do not need.

Loans

Regardless of your financial situation all loans have to be paid back.  Payment begins six months after graduation, or if you have been out of school for a long time.  Call your creditors to get a forbearance or deferment.  If you get a forbearance interest occurs on your loans, not during a deferment period.

*You do not need good credit to recieive financial aide.  However, if you do not pay your loans and you become delinquent chances are you will not be able to enroll back into school until you fix your loan situation.  Loans become delinquent after 270 days of non payment.

Subsidized loan- The Federal Government pays the interest for Direct Subsidized Loans while the student is in college or while the loan is in deferment.

Unsubsidized Loan- Interest begins accruing for Direct Unsubsidized Loans as soon as the loan is taken out.

A Grad Plus loan requires a credit check.
